Nine candidates are elected to the Boston City Council.

Elected to the new, nine-member body elected at large are Francis Ahearn, William Foley Jr., Frederick. Hailer Jr., William Hurley, Francis Joyce, John Kerrigan, Gabriel Piemonte, Michael Ward, Joseph White. Foley is the top vote getter with 115,397. Five of the nine were backed by the New Boston Committee. Michael Ward resigns and is replaced by Michael Cantwell on December 28, 1953.
